MUSCAT, OCT 18

The Muscat Stock Exchange has launched the Omani Women Investors Club to attract more women to financial markets, channel savings into investments and broaden Oman’s investor base.

The club will combine financial education, professional networking and partnerships to help women assess investment opportunities and participate more actively in capital markets.

Launched at an MSX ceremony marking Omani Women’s Day, the initiative began with a bell-ringing ceremony signalling the start of its activities.

Haitham bin Salem al Salmi, Chief Executive Officer of MSX, said the club formed part of efforts to build a more inclusive and diversified capital market.

Increasing women’s participation would broaden the investor base and deepen the market, supporting its contribution to sustainable economic growth, he said.

Al Salmi said the initiative would connect financial knowledge with investment opportunities, strengthen confidence and give Omani women a larger role in investment decisions and wealth creation.

MSX aims to establish the club as a lasting platform for institutional partnerships and collaboration, supporting the economic diversification objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Areej bint Mohsin Haider Darwish, Chairperson of the club and Chairperson of the Automotive, Construction Equipment and Renewable Energy cluster at Mohsin Haider Darwish Group, said women’s economic empowerment required stronger financial literacy and wider access to investment opportunities.

Professional networks would also be important in encouraging collaboration, sharing expertise and turning investment potential into tangible results, she said.

Darwish said the club would develop strategic partnerships, promote financial and investment awareness, and support the growth of investments led by women.

Its objectives also include strengthening women’s representation in leadership and investment decision-making roles, while encouraging long-term wealth creation.

The club aims to connect women investors and business leaders in Oman and abroad through collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and experience.

Majda al Maamari, Director of the Sustainable Investment Centre at MSX and a member of the club, said increasing the number of Omani women investing in the stock market was a central objective.

“The club will host three to four sessions annually, aimed at the economic empowerment of Omani women,” she said.

The sessions will support the club’s wider goals of improving financial literacy, building confidence in investment decisions and expanding participation in financial markets.

Darwish chairs the club’s committee, whose members include Samra al Harthi, an MSX board member; Al Maamari; Lamis al Lawati, Chief Financial Officer at Shell Oman Marketing; and Zahra al Lawati, Head of Al Sadara Premium Banking at the National Bank of Oman.

Other members are Hamda al Shamsi, Chief Executive Officer of Isar Financial and Management Consultancy, and Rania al Khasibi, Chief Executive Officer of Al Amal Consultancy.

The committee will oversee the club’s strategic direction and develop measurable initiatives, with governance, transparency and sustainability guiding its work.

Its remit includes building partnerships that create investment opportunities and support the continuity and development of the club’s activities.
